IFAKARA HOUSE ONE

HOUSE 1 - Burned Clay Bricks with Thatch Roof

Found in the Kibaoni Region north of Ifakara, this house is constructed using burnt bricks for the walls and thatch for the gable roof. The thatch roof is held up from a grid of wood in the form of a gable. This house has gaps in the eaves for light and wind movement. This is also a place where mosquitoes can enter the house.

Burnt bricks are used for the wall of this house.

Openings

There’s one window in the house, framed in wood and covered with a metal wire screen.

Environmental Data

To better understand the possibility of mosquito bite rates and thermal comfort of the occupants, data on the carbon dioxide, light intensity, and temperature were measured in the house.
